So here is the low down. The other day I received a letter from the University of Utah. It was in the negative. poop. Them dang indians don't know what their missin! It was a little funny when I opened it, since we were with some friends- They were very scared and uncomfortable, thinking that I was going to break down and start crying on the spot, but alas, I am a strong lad. Perhaps staying here in Utah was not meant to be. It makes me ponder on a wise saying that Homer Simpson once said: "Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try." As much as I would like to take that advice, I have not given up. I have, in fact, recieved two invitations from other schools to have an interview!! (applause, cheers, and cat calls) First I received a letter from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas inviting me to attend an interview on the 20th of February from 12:30p.m. to 5:00p.m. I eagerly accepted their invitation, and planned to drive down with Tiff to tour campus and such. I then recieved another interview from Eastern Washinton University... there was a slight kick to the knickers when I read what time they wanted me to be there... I am supposed to arrive on the 21st of February at 10:00 a.m. for my interview. When I first read that my head almost exploded. Since I was planning on driving to my Vegas interview there would obviously be a problem getting to Washington only 17 hours later... expecially since the drive from Vegas to Spokane is 16 hours. So, I searched and poked around the internet until I finally found a flight through Southwest that Leaves Vegas at 8:30pm and gets to Spokane at 10:40. So, that weekend is going to be nuts. I will fly to Vegas Friday morning, go to the interview, leave to the airport, fly to Spokane, find a hotel, sleep, go to my next interview, then fly home right after that. Boo. I'm really sad that Tiff isn't going to be able to accompany me, but I guess it will be kind of nice getting them out of the way together. I just hope that I will be able to get accepted to at least one of them! And if both, then which one? I think that we should go over some crucial influences on my decision: the mascots. So far in my educational career I have been an Eagle, a Warrior, a Hawk, a Ute, A Cougar, and now what?? With these two schools I can be either a Rebel or an Eagle. Yes, again an Eagle. Let us observe:

First off: Is this really the image that comes to your mind when you think of a Rebel? Is it really rebellious to have tassels on your outfit? It might be unusual or tacky, but rebellious? The stash: impressive, but again, not so rebellious. I guess it would be considered rebellious compared to BYU standards, since the stash passes the corners of his mouth. That crazy rebel. One thing that strikes me as considerably rebellious are those tights that he has on. He is rebelling against crotchal comfort. You go man. I think if they are going for a rebel they should have their mascot be a pregnant teenage girl. Now THAT is a rebel.

I like the eagle mascot. Its tough, fast, and cool. I don't know about their motto, though. Start something BIG. Really? Is that all you could come up with? Hmm.. It was probably competing with "BIG is where we aim" or "Do BIG things" or "Be smart and do cool things so that you can be successful and do things that you like and those things will make you feel accomplished" Those would be good mottos.
Feel free to offer insights.

insight #1: Leaving Utah- at least for a little while-is great fun! you'll end up loving that you did it!
insight #2: I vote for spokane. Vegas is too hot and spokane is BEAUTIFUL and there's lots of non sin related stuff to do (I have cousins there and it was always an adventure!)! plus- who wants to wear those ill fitting crotch pants?! okay- maybe you do.
p.s. that was me- leisy. not kent.
First - sorry about the U. But I think you will find (down the road) that it was divine intervention.
Now - as a UNLV alum, I have to defend our rebel. He is the very definition of cool. Only a man with true confidence could pull off that look...
As for a vote, I think I would vote Washington too. It is sooo pretty up there, with LOTS of awesome outdoor adventures. Obviously this vote has nothing to do with schools, just the location.
But either school will get you what you need - an education. =D Good luck with your interviews!!! Keep us informed!
Wow Zak, congratulations. You'll have a couple or whirlwind days with the interviews. It seems like things always work out for the best. I remember a picture I have of you in tights and you had plenty of confidence. I can also see you soaring with the eagles. :)
i vote for unlv the coolest cousins ansd aunt and uncle you have live in vegas and since im getting married and moving in september you can live in the condo im buying which is no more then 5 miles away from unlv and totally off the strip when you live in vegas you dont see or deal with the sinful stuff they just enphsize that stiff on tv. its not that bad its the same any where you go my blog went privite so for an invite email me your address to tiffanytaylor2910@yahoo.com
I would strongly suggest getting in contact with church members at those schools if you can. They may be able to pick you up from the airport, arrange a place to stay, and save you loads of cash! They will also have the best insights about the school, its programs, and the ward you will be attending. That information may be the deciding factor as to which school you pick! It was the best thing I did when I came to interview here in Ohio. - Kent P.S. did you design that eagle logo?
I would also like to point out that many rebels through out history have worn tights. Peter Pan. Robin Hood. Need I go on?
las vegas is the better choice it dosnt rain every day less depressing then washington
o and the rent of my condo will be better then any where else and the waqrf is the best ever it is great BEST WARD I HAVE EVER BEEN IN
haha. Loved the post. Loved the comments. :)
That sounds like the most crazy week. I hope you can enjoy it a little! Congrats on the interviews. That is so stressful to wait for and go through. So, good job!
You'll be in our prayers!
Hey Jerkface...I would have read, but the GIANT BLOCK of text killed my desire to do so...next time try a little thing called a paragraph...
Who's Hyrome? And why is he so spicy?
Zak. I vote for Washington. That would be a fun place to visit. How long will you be in this place? We will miss you. Good luck at the interviews! You'll win them over with your good looks and charm - they won't care about anything else.
haha Heidi.
That was funny, Zak. You SHOULD blog more. Jerkface. (Hyrome made me say that.)
Congrats on the interviews! I really wish it was here, but at least we can visit you somewheres fun. I bet after the interviews they'll both be clawing to get at your tights. Washington definitely has the best logo, but I wish it said "start something HOT." I'm sure both will be an adventure. Good luck!!! **wink!**
Congrats Zak!! I'm torn - you do look good in tights and warm weather golfing would be a great side line when we come to visit. Washington is gorgeous though and they do have some really nice golf. Soaring with the eagles would be good once again. You are an entertaining blogger and should definately blog more often! I'm proud of you! Way to go!!
That was mom. This is dad. I'm torn. UNLV is closer to SLC and way close to St. George, my fave in the winter, so we could visit you a lot. However, the rebel is seriously lame. They should have a showgirl or a black jack dealer or something like that. Personally, I've always liked raptors. The eagle is definitely the best.
(New paragraph, for Hyrome who must be on steroids or something) If you lived in Spokane we could drive up in the summers and visit.
Anyway, congratulations on getting two interviews. Once they meet you they'll have to have you their program.
Next paragraph, okay Hyrome? I really enjoy your blogs. You rival Mandi in reading enjoyment.
As the WIFE here is my opinion:
Lets be honest: Warm vs. Cold, is there any question?
Factor 2: Lake Mead, large and usable for most of the year vs Lake Coeur d'Alene cold and usable for 3 months of the year and otherwise pretty to look at.
Factor 3: We both have a lot of friends and family in Vegas vs I know someone that is related to people that live a hour away from Spokane.
In reality, we will be fine wherever we end up. Either place will be an adventure, and we will be fine anywhere. Lets not forget that Seattle and Tacoma are still in the running.
I like Vegas because it would be easier for us to come visit. :) But I hear Washington is great. And I have to admit we are a little jealous that you will get to live out of state. We want to leave Utah at least for a little while.
I would totally come visit you in Spokane. Washington would rock. And I love your posts. They make me laugh.
I know people that live an hour from Spokane, so now you know two! But really, I would go with whatever feels the best, and whoever offers the best incentives. Really that should be the deciding factor! Good Luck!
Well my friend...lets go from a professional point of view. UNLV has a good program--that happens to have a pretty inexpensive tuition and it usually only takes about 6-9 months to get residency in NV. Both schools have a doctorate program which is good...dont go less then a DPT. EW is a great school. Jason was also interested in that one. They help plan and fulfill out of state internships which is a plus- so you could come back to UT for a few months of you wanted. Jason worked in a hospital in Las Vegas and they have some really really really good Therapists and programs to work with down there. My opinion is to go where you get accepted...if its both. Pray. :)
