The Fantastic Fourth

Happy belated fourth of July! I have to say that I am dissapointed that I wasn't able to spend the forth of July sitting in the hot sun on a Provo sidewalk eating licorice and watching floats pass by... I really am! Those memories are of the such that make me very homesick... but I was still able to have some fun here. On the forth of July eve we were able to go downtown to the 'taste of Chicago' held every year where tons of restaurants set up booths in the streets and you can try a whole variety of different foods offered in the city. We arrived a bit late since we came after work, so we werent able to explore the booths very much... plus there were MILLIONS of people there (literally? maybe) and the crowds were ridiculous. After that escapade we found our way towards the lake where the fireworks were being let off- it was a pretty cool show if you don't pay attention to the pot smoke and alcohol in the air... oh yeah, and the drunk guy that was impatient who tries to get out of the crowd fast and falls on a hispanic family and the men try to fight him... other than that, it was just great. Then we go home.... holy crap. TONS AND WAY TOO MANY people. the streets in all directions were masses of people. The train was about 6 blocks away and there was a solid mass of people all the way there. We'll just say it took a while to get out of there.

The actual day of the fourth of July was much more pleasant. We slept in for a while, got ready slowly, and then went off to the store for barbeque supplies. We went all out. Oh man we made some good burgers. We made them at the park afterwhich we played volleyball and then went swimming. Then we made our way to yet another barbeque... mmmm. It was at a members house close to where we live (gigantic house) and it was awesome. There were also some other people there that were familiar... I don't know if all of you will know who I am talking about, but do you remember that girl with blonde hair and the cheesy smile that is in all of the seminary videos?? She is in the movie 'on the way home' where the little girl dies and the family gets baptized... she is the friend that always bears her testimony and helps the family. And guess who her husband is?? Its that rebellious guy in the RM and the Singles ward- he was there too. It was way random- I was in thier basement playing ping pong when I saw them come in- it was weird. I didn't think seminary video girl still exsited. hahaha.

After all of that we went to see some 'home' fireworks which were CLEARLY illegal. It was probably the best fireworks show I have ever seen. Not only were they pretty big, but about half of them were disfunctional so you were entertained and scared for your life at the same time. It was great. Anywho, that was my experience here, but I still wish I could be with you all!

I think only Jen and Ike went to the parade for a bit - and no one else braved it. Jaime and I agreed it would be wierd with no Zak there - and after last years hot sun, we were scared away. We did go to Pat & Brents house for a picnic. We had a superman slip and slide that all the kids had a blast on it. Paul decided to try the Superman slide and he blasted down the hill and we thought he was going to take out the garden but he finally stopped. It was very entertaining. One year off the parade was good. Who wants to go next year?

Yeah, just throw the tradition out the window. Sad, sad. I was actually looking forward to the parade, but I've been the mooch (yes Ryan, the mooch), coming late and stealing chairs and eating everyone elses food.

Glad you had fun Zak!

Zak - That sounds like a pretty fun fourth. It was very sad not to go to the Provo parade, but I just didn't have it in me this year. And what's a parade without Zak? Pat and Brent's was fun but for some reason it is getting more and more awkward with the Millers. I don't know if they like us very much.

That night we went to the Sandy fireworks. Heidi and Gary met us there - it was great until the fireworks started and all the kids got so freaked out that Heidi and Gary left with a crying Mia, and Kobe and Teylor were hiding under the blanket. Why do we even go? Then I got up and 5 a.m. and went to trek for 4 days. good times.

It definitely wasn't the same without going to the Provo parade. Sounds to me like you had a great Fourth of July, however. Hanging out with celebrities, eating hamburgers, watching hispanic guys trying to pick a fight because they feel inferior and discriminated against (probably illegals).

Our golf game at Soldier Hollow was definitely better than sitting in the hot sun eating licorice. We even got to see the jets fly over the Heber Valley which was way better than at the parade.

Jaime, we definitely need to do something to warm up the Millers. It is a bit awkward and I don't know why. The slip and slide was definitely a hit. Good old Paul. He just had to try it out.

Yeah - the 4th was kind of a bust this year. We had a bbq with the Brownings the day before and did a whole bunch of illegal Wyoming fireworks that night, but it just wasn't the same. Oliver was scared of them and crying most of the time. Then I didn't go to the Millers with Paul the next day because Oliver was napping. Sounds like I missed an awkward time, darnit!! heh heh

Oh well, it was kind of a nice breather and we can hit it hard next year - YEAH!
